Lead Trainer
Introduction
The purpose of the DEEP™ Lead Trainer workshop is to teach participants how to train peer educators so they become proficient teachers on the methods of diabetes prevention and control used by DEEP™. The Lead Trainer workshop also enhances clinician-patient communication skills. The Lead Trainer workshop combines the specific diabetes topics with group facilitation techniques and activities.

• Understanding the CHW Workforce
• Facilitating Experiential Exercises – Cultural Competence/Communication
• Introduction to Motivational Interviewing – Action Plan
• Non-traditional Assessments/Performance Based
• Rubric Development
• Modeling a teach back
• Purpose and use of evaluation
• DEEP Overview
• Diabetes Overview
DAY 2
Run through of the modules:
• Module 1: Understanding the Human Body
• Module 2: Understanding Risk Factors for Diabetes
• Module 3: Monitoring Your Body
• Module 4: Diabetes and Physical Activity
• Module 5: Management of Diabetes through Meal Planning
• Module 6: Complications of Diabetes
DAY 3
• Finish modules:
• Module 7: Learning about Medications and Medical Care
• Module 8: Living with Diabetes: Mobilizing your Family and Friends
• Implementing DEEP™: Reporting, Licensing, Certification and Recertification
• Participants demonstrate their presentation and facilitation skills through group teach-back sessions
• Workshop Evaluation
